A few years ago, my mother introduced me to the concept of coming up with "One Little Word". It's a project in the scrap booking community started by Ali Edwards, where you come up with a word for the year. In her words: "a word to focus on, to live with, to investigate, to write about, to craft with, and to reflect upon as I go about my daily life."
Although I don't scrapbook, for me it's a practice in intentions, mindfulness, manifestation. A simple premise, but with big results.
Every once in a blue moon, I come across another creative who isn't satisfied with creating something that is simply very beautiful, and on those rare occasions my artistic heart just melts into a sappy puddle and an instant bond is formed.
This collaboration is a love story between Abby Chick (who runs Blakemore's Flowers), the Harrisonburg Harlots (a burlesque group run by Sindi Ray Boustier), and me. Obvi.
I am, without a doubt, through and through, a mountain girl. Give me grass to dig my toes into, a tree stump to sit on, and I'm a happy girl. Give me sand and water and I literally don't know wtf I'm supposed to. (For real, sand is itchy and waves knock me over and I have a whole laundry list of reasons why I don't like to be at the beach. Just saying.)
However, I live near the beach, with the mountains a few hours away, so I feel like it's about time that I start embracing these opportunities. So when Viktoriya from the Hanging Gardens finally had a styled session available on a date that I was available, I decided to jump on it.
Alejandra and Aaron actually booked me for a wedding up in the Shenandoah Valley (at the Melrose Caverns! That one was on my bucket list), buuuut if you haven't seen the forecast up there, it's basically been monsoon season. Despite a few attempts to schedule sessions up their way, they decided to pay me a visit down at the beach for a mid-summer sunrise session. And I'm so freaking happy that they did.
